Recognition or assessment of foreign vocational training

Recognition of vocational qualifications

The FederalMinistry of Labour and Economy (BMAW) is responsible for the recognition of vocational training completed abroad with the corresponding Austrian apprenticeship-leave exam.

In the event of differences in the duration or content of training, admission to the practical final apprenticeship examination may be prescribed as a supplement to the completed training.

With the decision from the Ministry, it is possible to register for the practical final apprenticeship examination at the relevant apprenticeship office.

Based on special vocational training agreements, a number of vocational training credentials obtained in Germany, Hungary or South Tyrol have been declared equivalent. The BMAW will provide the relevant information on request.

Vocational training agreement

Some vocational training courses completed in Germany, Hungary or South Tyrol are treated in the same way due to vocational training agreements. Upon request, the Federal Ministry for Digitization and Economic Location will provide information about this.

Assessment of education completed abroad

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy (BMAW) can make an assessment to determine the technical correspondence with the training in an Austrian apprenticeship or a professional field.
