Austrian National Contact Point for Responsible Business Conduct

National Contact Points (NCPs)

The OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises (OECD Guidelines) are the most comprehensive international instrument for promoting responsible business conduct. 38 OECD members and 13 other countries (Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Peru, Romania, Jordan, Ukraine, Uruguay and Kazakhstan) and the European Union have committed under international law to promote and implement these principles and standards for RBC, which are in line with applicable law and internationally accepted norms.

The OECD Guidelines contain recommendations for action by governments to multinational enterprises operating in or from the adherent countries and thus, represent an addition to the applicable law. The so-called "National Contact Points" promote the effective implementation. NCPs have been established in all adhering countries to offer dialogue and conciliation platforms on questions pertaining to the OECD Guidelines.

Austrian National Contact Point

One of the central tasks of the Austrian National Contact Point (Austrian NCP) is to enhance the awareness and effectiveness of the OECD Guidelines. The exchange of experiences and cooperation with other NCPs should also be fostered. The Austrian NCP serves as a contact point for companies, civil society, other stakeholders, interested parties and other NCPs.

Non-judicial grievance mechanism

The Austrian NCP offers an extra-judicial dispute resolution and conciliation platform on questions related to the application of the OECD Guidelines, in particular in the case of complaints (specific instances) about alleged breaches of the OECD Guidelines. Specific instances are handled in accordance with the “Procedures” in the OECD Guidelines. In addition, procedural provisions are provided in the "Terms of Reference" of the Austrian NCP. For further information, see "The Work of the Austrian NCP". Within its scope of activities, the Austrian NCP contributes to settling of raised issues in an impartial, predictable and equitable manner that is compatible with the principles and standards of the OECD Guidelines by providing a platform to mediate between parties involved.
